Richmond’s Opening Night Party at Pasture

Stop the presses! Mama got to go out! Hooray! After The Lion King’s opening night performance at Richmond’s Landmark Theater, the local CBS station threw a party for the cast and crew at Pasture, a trendy Southern/Soul Food restaurant located downtown on Grace Street. Our good friend Theresa, who was the ensemble dance captain back in Lion King Las Vegas and is now our touring roommate here in Richmond, volunteered to stay home with an already-conked-out Max while Mike and I put grown-up clothes on and headed out around 11pm.

As it turned out, it might have been more appropriate to bring our 19-month-old toddler! This touring company of The Lion King is kid-heavy, and these kiddos were out in full force. I think I counted about 15 party-goers under 12 years old. There was even a 21-month-old set of twin boys that partied until after 1am. Wow. Max has got to catch up.

It was so wonderful to meet the cast and crew, as we Hollicks are the newbies on tour. Some were familiar faces from Las Vegas, and others became fast, new friends. That’s how theater folks are — open, extroverted, approachable and fun. These Lion King friends are some of the hardest-working actors and crew I know. They all deserve a big party every month… and I don’t mind celebrating with them!

Mike cut a serious rug on the dance floor with the Simba cubs. Here he is with Adante and Zavion (who is drinking a water, straight up, no chaser).
