Introducing our newest venture: Mamachic Co.

In my freshman year of college, I dated a boy named Shane. For a week. Like many of my Duke relationships, it started fire-y and fizzled out just as fast. Still a novice to all the “proper” etiquette to dating, I just did what seemed easiest. I stopped returning his calls. Responded curtly to his emails. Avoided him in the dining hall. Finally I got an email one morning in my inbox, containing just four words:

“Why the uncomfortable silence?”

I rambled back some awkward words of apology, of how I was so busy, and how I appreciated his understanding and his friendship.

I never heard back from him again.

I’m not proud of the way I handled that, and I want our 4 For The Road friends to know that there is a good reason for our silence here on the blog. We appreciate your faithful friendship, so much. We don’t want to lose you. It’s just that… we have been busy. For real! I know you’ve been worried. Here are some of your anxious emails:

“Where are the photos of your delectable meals? Where are Eva’s monthly pics? What does your current home look like? Are you still touring? Are you all alive?”

This is what I was afraid of, when we started this little travel blog — of letting people in, then letting them down. I’m sorry for our silence. But it’s all good stuff that’s keeping the Hollicks busy. And here, you are the first to know.

We are more than thrilled to give our 4 For The Road readers a FIRST glimpse of our new company and the product we’re launching on Kickstarter in 1 month: The Mamachic.

This business venture has been 4 years in the making! Before we jumped onto the Lion King tour in 2012, Mike and I started developing a foolproof burpcloth, which you could wear as a scarf. Since then, our design has evolved slowly but surely into an ultra-versatile, sustainable garment — a burpcloth, nursing cover, swaddle blanket — and now it’s just gorgeous as a stand-alone scarf, if we do say so ourselves. This is a lookbook peek, and you are the first to see it:

I finally buckled down and did it, with the help of sustainable fashion consultant Shannon Whitehead and her program Factory45. This is all while traveling on the road, moving our stuff every month, breastfeeding my 21-month-old, juggling childcare with Mike and tour friends. To tell the truth, I don’t get much sleep, or exercise. But I’m creating this business with passion and love, and I’m ecstatic that you’re along for the ride.

Please join our email list HERE and as an early subscriber, you’ll get exclusive access to early bird Kickstarter prices.

I will be updating you all here on 4 For The Road as well, but the best thing is to subscribe on the Mamachic site.

We are so relieved and happy you’re still here with us… and we’re in Louisville now, by the way. Here’s a sneak peek of the winter wonderland:
