On Father’s Day, to the big guy I call Dada

From Angela: Here is what I think Max would say to Mike on this Father’s Day 2013. Just a mother’s interpretation, mind you, and probably one of the last times I can get away with speaking for my already very verbal kid. So I must grab it! 🙂

Hi Dada!

For Father’s Day, I wanted to list the things I love about you most.

1. I think you’re the silliest guy I know. That makes you my hero.

2. You are super patient with me, even after that time I stuck my head all the way in the grownup potty, just to see where your poo went.

3. You play with me. Like, really play with me — you help me build Piston Cup race lines, connect Thomas railroad tracks, and sound the Octo Alert. Like, for hours. You swim with me. We wrestle. We do this all the time.

4. You read lots of books to me at bedtime, even when Mama says you’re only supposed to read one.  Mama calls you a sucker, but I know you’re just savoring all the time we have together at night, since you only get to do it 2 times a week.

5. You protect me. I never feel more safe and happy than we are together.

6. You encourage my creativity unconditionally, whether it be an affinity for ballet or monster truck racing. You love indulging me in the magic of your work backstage. You also think I’m the best singer, ever.

7.  You know just how to turn my frown upside down — especially when I’m trying super hard to be stubborn and cranky. There’s something about you that makes me giddy, makes me laugh, makes me forget to be mad/angry/tired.

8.  You teach me to be genuine and kind. You don’t claim to be perfect, and you don’t expect me to be. You just want me to enjoy our moments together, treat others well, and own up to the fact that I just farted (and be proud!). I really have the best Dada in the world. Period.

Happy Father’s Day, Dada! I love you!

Love,
Max Ming Hollick

p.s.  Mama also told me to mention your innate sweetness, subtle swagger, and raw animal magnetism. Whatever that means!
