Lions and hyenas and giraffes — oh my!

What do you get when you take some Lion King cast members to the Metro Richmond Zoo on a gorgeous 70 degree February day?

Rashada Dawan (she plays Shenzi the hyena) finds this giraffe a little too forward. And yes, that is a tongue going for her cup!  Her daughter Genesis is running up to her rescue.

One of the marquis features of this zoo is their giraffe habitat — the visitor ledge is up high so you can be eye-level with these gentle creatures! They were huge yet sweet, and always looking for a handout. Mike and Max take these two in.

I told these camels to pose — and they obliged. Seriously.

The budgie bird experience was like being Snow White – they would jump right into your hand!

This mama gibbon is actually breastfeeding the baby. They seem sad, though, don’t they?

The baby chimps were pretty much the cutest things in the whole zoo!

Scratch that. These two might be the cutest at the zoo! Genesis, Rashada’s seven-year-old daughter, thinks Max is a little toy doll.

After a long day at the zoo, a ravenous Max attacks a carrot cake at Panera Bread.

Ron, you don’t know how many times Max has asked for you. It will be at the most random times. He will be looking out the car window and then repeat, “Ronnnn-ah. Ronnnn-ah.” We miss you, Katrina and Baby Jana!!
