Just for the record, we consider ourselves New Yorkers. Having spent most of our post-grad lives reveling in the concrete and cruising the subways, nose to the grindstone, Mike and I feel tough. We’ve battled others to make ends meet, to rise in our careers, and make ourselves a home. We’ve lived hard. We’re survivors. Being part of the urban world is a badge of honor.
So then why is Greenville, SC just the most glorious place right now?
Perhaps because it’s a cute little city that’s impeccably maintained. Maybe because the local people we’ve met are genial and very taken with The Lion King. It could be because everything is so kid-friendly!
Every Saturday morning, there’s a sweet Farmer’s Market in downtown Greenville, on Main Street. Just a 10 minute walk from our apartment at McBee Station, we can leisurely stroll along and take in local produce, baked goods, and arts and crafts. We’ve even been recognized on the street as part of The Lion King, and funnily enough, as writers of this very blog. Boy, Greenville loves them some Lion King.
The fresh produce is amazing; we had to stop ourselves from buying too much. We’re already 3 weeks in and we leave in 1 week, sadly. We’d love another month at least!
Now that it’s the THREE of us, city living seems so inhospitable at times. Here in Greenville, it just felt manageable. Max was able to kick back and relax, and the free samples of the baked goods didn’t hurt him either!
The longest line we encountered was for good reason. The Rio Bertonlini’s Fresh Pasta Company had some amazing-looking product — and quite the selection! They were also selling out quickly.
We didn’t have quite the stamina to wait in the line, and this is the pasta we missed out on:
