Every day is Father’s Day

...but today we eat a little more

Father’s Day was celebrated yesterday with two of the coolest dads on the planet – Mr. Mike Hollick and Mr. Nick Cordileone! And we celebrated in the best way the Hollicks know how: we ate until we couldn’t breathe. We hit Soby’s special buffet brunch in downtown Greenville for the occasion, and it was beyond our wildest dreams. Well, any wild dreams that we would have for Father’s Day, at least.

Soby’s really turned it out for the holiday with a breakfast and brunch spread made “with Dad in mind,” according to their website. They are one of the top restaurants in Greenville, and for $24 per adult and $12 for children ages 6-12, there was hand-carved marinated flank steak that was grilled outside on the patio, and a baked potato bar with all the fixings.

The buffet itself was pretty wonderful — St. Louis ribs, mac ‘n cheese, crab cakes with remoulade, shrimp with lobster cream sauce and rice pilaf, salads, roast veggies, ham and cheddar frittata, bacon, sausage, french toast, grits, home fries…the sheer selection alone made Nick giddy.

There was so much delicious food around us that Mike and Nick got caught up in the fervor and fed each other.

And the dessert spread? Kind of heaven-like. There was a chocolate fondue fountain with plenty of goodies to dip…

But I only had eyes for the pineapple and strawberries. I could live off this right here.

A berry cobbler and an assortment of cakes, cookies and pastries decorated the other dessert table…

But the best part was seeing these Lion King cookies, hand-drawn into frosting! The waitstaff brought us a special plate, just for our table.

Max yelled, “Lion King cookies!” and chomped right in. Black food dye and all. (Next 3 photos taken by Nick!)

Hero, like me, enjoyed multiple trips to the chocolate fountain. At one point, she dropped her plate in accidentally, in a bit of an offering to the fondue gods.

Are we full yet?

Happy Father’s Day to Mike and Nick! Or in a Max-like cheer, “Number One Father Game!” We have celebrated their fantastic-ness by collectively gaining 10 pounds in one meal.
